Area Code 615 was a country band out of Nashville active during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band took its name from a telephone area code, which at the time covered all of Central and Eastern Tennessee. Comprised of session musicians, Area Code 615 only recorded two albums before the members went back to their normal session work. Several of the members of Area Code 615 were backing musicians on Bob Dylan’s Blonde On Blonde and Nashville Skyline albums, and on recording by Billy Swan. The band is best known for their song “Stone Fox Chase,” which became the theme to the British Broadcasting Corporation’s music program The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The musicians to play with Area Code 615 include Mac Gayden (lead guitar, vocals), Charlie McCoy (harmonica, vocals), Bobby Thompson (banjo, guitar), Wayne Moss (guitar, bass), Buddy Spicher (fiddle, viola, cello), David Briggs (keyboards), Ken Lauber (keyboards), Norbert Putnam (bass, cello), Kenny Buttrey (drums), Weldon Myrick (pedal steel guitar) and Elliot Mazer (co-producer). The two albums the band released were Area Code 615 in 1969 and Trip In The Country in 1970.
