Chrysalis

From: Ithaca, NY, USA

Chrysalis were a folk/rock band based out of New York in the late 1960s. Lead member Spider Barbour would go on to have a solo career, as well as join the Mothers of Invention. The band delved into folk, rock, jazz, and Middle Eastern music. Frank Zappa once referred to Chrysalis as “a group that has yet to destroy your mind,” and was actually supposed to produce the band’s sole album. However, Zappa was experiencing contractual problems of his own at the time, so Chrysalis used a number of production teams to make the record. Chrysalis fell apart shortly after.
