The Chocolate Tunnel

From: Bakersfield, CA, USA

Very Little is known about this band. In 1967, they released the single “The Highly Successful Young Rupert White” / “Ostrich People.” “The Highly Successful Rupert White”  features tambourine flourishes and an organ break along with trippy vocals. “Ostrich People” is a phenomenal piece of psych music, with its bass heavy production and what sounds like a backwards string mix. The song also features trippy vocals and some fantastic fuzz guitar at the end of the song. Both songs are written by Kenny Johnson and Jerry Ritchie, and Bob Hopps is credited on the A-side. The single was released on the small In-Sound label. Enough copies were sold that the single was later released on Era Records, a label that was mostly known for releasing soul 45s.
