The Countdown 5

From: Galveston, TX, USAThe Countdown 5

Hailing from Galveston, Texas, The Countdown 5 released several singles on various labels during the 1960s. The band never made it big on a national scale, but they were quite popular locally, and most of their singles have been reissued on compilation albums.

The Countdown 5’s best single was their last one, “Shaka Shaka Na Na” / “Money Man.” “Shaka Shaka Na Na” is filled with great harmonies and has a great groove. “Money Man” is an energetic number and has an intro very similar to “Monterey” by Eric Burdon & The Animals. The song is a moody psychedelic number with intricate instrumentation. The song also has a slight political edge to it.
