The Fairytale

From: Warrington, England

The Fairytale were a short-lived band out of Washington that managed two singles for Decca in 1967. Members were John Weston (guitar), Mally Rabbit (organ), Billy Fagg (drums), and Chaddy Penketh (bass).

The band’s first single was “Guess I Was Dreaming”/”Run And Hide”, released in August 1967. The A-side is a decent example of pop-psych with a foreboding piano riff and a bass line that pops in and out throughout the song. The B-side, “Run And Hide,” is pure 1960s pop. The following month the band released their second single “Lovely People”/”Listen To Mary Cry.”
