The Free

From: Michigan, USA

Not to be confused with the UK Blues/Rock band Free, this the Free hailed from Michigan and only ever released one single. In 1968, the Free released “Decision For Lost Soul Blue”/”What Makes You” on the Marquee label. The record was eventually picked up by Atco Records for national distribution. “Decision For Lost Soul Blue” had some commercial appeal, and was also filled with elements of psychedelia, such as fuzz tone and wah. The song actually has a British sound to it and would not have sounded out of place on the “Chocolate Soup For Diabetics” compilation series. The B-side, “What Makes You,” is also quite good. It has a folk-rock sound with some nice guitar work.
