Rising Sons

Rising SonsFrom: Los Angeles, CA, USA

Nobody was too sure what to make of the Rising Sons, a mid-’60s band that featured Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Kevin Kelley, and Ed Cassidy. The band only ever managed one single on Columbia before they disbanded in 1966. However, the Rising Sons did manage to record an album’s worth of material which would be released some 25 years later. The album features some excellent pieces of blues and folk that are well worth a listen. Their influence can be heard in the music of bands such as Moby Grape, Buffalo Springfield, the Grateful Dead, and the Byrds.
