Wendy & Bonnie

From: Millbrae, CA, USA

Wendy & Bonnie were singer/songwriter sisters from America who recorded the album Genesis in 1969 for Skye Records. The sisters grew up in a San Francisco Bay suburb with their parents, Art and Jeane Flower who were professional musicians. In 1967, Wendy joined the psychedelic band Crystal Foundation; Bonnie later joined the same band as the drummer. A year later, Latin percussionist and Wendy and Bonnie’s godfather, Cal Tjader, heard the sisters’ acoustic home demos and arranged a recording session with Skye Records, a company he partly owned. Wendy and Bonnie were teenagers when their album was recorded. Producer and part owner of Skye Records, Gary McFarland, served as arranger on the sessions, producing an album of post-psychedelic soft rock with Brazilian overtones. Other musicians who played on the album included Larry Carlton (guitar), Jim Keltner (drums), and Mike Melovin (keyboards).

Skye Records soon went bankrupt after Genesis was released. While there were plans for additional recording with the sisters, McFarland was mysteriously murdered in a New York bar. In the early 1970s, Wendy & Bonnie sang backing vocals on two Cal Tjander albums for Fantasy Records. They then went onto pursue solo careers in music and entertainment, never recording together again. Genesis was reissued by Sundazed Records in 2001. The album was also reissued in 2008, this time in expanded format, including demos, alternate mixes, and vintage live recordings. ~ Wikipedia
