Mars Bonfire

From: Oshawa, ON, Canada

Born Dennis Eugene McCrohan, more famously known as Mars Bonfire, this Canadian musician and songwriter is best remembered for writing the hit song ‘Born To Be Wild’ for Steppenwolf.

In the early 1960s both Dennis and his brother Jerry changed their surnames to Edmonton. Both were part of the band the Sparrows, which later evolved into Steppenwolf. Another member of the Sparrows was Bruce Palmer, who would later go on to join Buffalo Springfield. While Jerry stuck with Steppenwolf as their drummer, Dennis embarked on a solo career. At this time, he went under the moniker Mars Bonfire. He would often collaborate with Kim Fowley, co-writing and recording with him and his associated artists.
