The Brass Ring was a Herb Alpert-esque band from the late 1960s, led by reed player Phil Bodner. The band was known for specializing in the short-lived musical style called “the Now Sound,” a largely instrumental style that had looser rhythms than Alpert’s music. The Brass Ring had a number of minor hits, their best known being “The Love Theme From the Flight of Phoenix.” Their song “The Dis-Advantages of You” was used in several TV commercials for Benson & Hedges cigarettes.
