The Checkerlads

From: Regina, SK, Canada

The Checkerlads were only a band for a very brief period of time. Over their short existence, the band released three singles. The band consisted of Arnold Rippliner, Robert Frei, Robert Bucholtz, Harvey Frasz, Larry Reich. The Checkerlads issued their first single on the Thunder Bay-based Gaiety label in 1966. The A-side features the self-penned Rolling Stones clone “Baby Send For Me,” which is a great garage rock tune. However, it was the B-side, “Shake Yourself Down,” that charted. The song entered Vancouver’s CFUN 1410 Canadian Runners-up chart the week of October 29, 1966. Copies of this record sell for over $100, with the most expensive copies being the ultra-rare picture sleeve that came with Gaiety promo copies.
