The Executive

From: Blackpool, England

This pop-soul outfit started life in the early 60s as the Executives. Members included Roy Carr (vocals), Peter Fielding (lead guitar), Colin McLaren (guitar, vocals), Peter Nugent (guitar), Don Eld (bass), Reg Powell (organ) and Derek Fell (drums). They released several 45s between 1964 and 1969, changing their name to The Executive in 1968. Their first single as The Executive was “Tracey Took A Trip”/”Gardena Dreamer.” The A-side should have been a hit, but was banned by the BBC due to the song’s presumed drug connection.

Once the band split up, Carr went on to become on of Britain’s best known rock & roll writers as an author and editor for the magazine NME (New Musical Express).
