From: Toronto, ON, Canada
The Fringe were a popular folk-punk group out of the Toronto club scene. Their manager Bill Riley wanted the band to record an album, an EP and a 45 simultaneously, rushing the band into Sound Canada studios where they recorded 11 tracks to be put out as an album. In the end, just a promo-only EP was released, which is now highly sought-after among collectors. The Fringe did release two 45s (both in 1968) on the Quality label. Their second single features the fuzz-drenched “Plastic People” which made it to #74 on the local charts in February 1968.
